WATER COLLECTION AND CHANNELING ELEMENTS

The permanent exhibition

Their function was to weatherproof roofs, as well as to collect and channel rainwater. This category includes a wide range of different types of pieces: roofing tiles, roofing tiles with built in vent holes, concave tiles for channeling, drainage trenches, tubes, bend pipe, branches, etc.

There were pieces which were manufactured at the brickworks and tile works, such as regular tiles and other special tiles, including the tiles used for channeling rainwater.

Ancillary pieces of construction, including objects used for collecting water (tubes, bend pipes, drains), were manufactured in most pottery shops. Potter‘s wheels required given their special modelling techniques, and therefore they necessarily had to be made by potters. They constituted a complement to the traditional production of household utensils, and they were often produced by the less-skilled shop workers, especially during bad weather spells or when work was done.
